Heaven Is Our Home –
Some of you may remember this: there’s an old song that says, ‘In heaven there is no beer, that’s why we drink it here’. There are a lot of things heaven doesn’t offer us. It doesn’t have the ups and downs of this amusement park we call Planet Earth. We pay a lot of money to ride the roller coaster. We love the climb to the top and then the awesome free fall back to earth. We scream, and our hearts race, and then we pay to do it again. We came here for the thrill of it, and the experience of it, and the soul growth it offers us. If we had wanted
balanced, unending love and belonging we could have just stayed home. Our souls evidently opted for a ‘day’ at the theme park and a way to grow.
And then sometimes we cry about it. When we become dizzy and lost and scared we cry out to God, saying, ‘why?’ Why indeed, when our souls were the ones who pleaded for the ticket to the fun house, and anticipated being thrown into the darkness with courage.
You get to hug here, in the real physical sense. Heavenly hugging may actually be more meaningful and enjoyable, but it won’t be a physical earth hug. If you want one, you had better get it now. The same for hot fudge sundaes and laughing until you cry. And for walking on grass and letting a puppy lick your face. You get to be creative here and to problem solve and feel the sense of self worth when you accomplish something. We must have thought that the pain part would be worth it.
You – wonderful, marvelous, brave, intelligent, thoughtful, creative you. You sought this experience out. The day will end before you know it and it will be time to go home.
