Mad at God?
Have you ever been mad at God? So mad that any relationship you had with Him seemed fractured and broken? Maybe you prayed, and believed, and trusted that certain situations would be resolved in a certain way, and it didn’t happen. You felt betrayed. You felt alone. You didn’t know where to turn for help. You felt God had let you down.
Here’s one answer on what to do when you are angry with God.
I am reminded of a story I heard a while back. A mom was recounting an experience she had with her small daughter in a grocery store. The child had evidently been acting up, enough that the mother just lost it. The mom yelled and threatened and scared her little girl into silence, and then tears. For a moment the child didn’t know what to do, and then she ran to her mom and hugged mom’s legs as though her very little life depended on it.
The mother said that the irony was not lost on her. She had been the source of her daughter’s fear and pain. At the same time she was the only solution and comfort her daughter had.
This needs to be our lesson too. Even if we feel that God has been the source of our pain. Even if we feel that God has let us down, who else is there to hold on to? Who loves us more? Who has our answers?
Of course God never really lets us down. It’s only our human interpretation of the experiences of life, but sometimes it feels real. It feels like real betrayal. We really hurt.
At those times, I hope you can be like the little child. No matter how bad it gets, run to God and cling to Him. Therein lies all your hope.
Blessed Be, Elaine
